Walks Like A Duck

HEY EVERYONE! THANKS for stoppin' in. It's Saturday, "our" favorite day of the week.

Is it too soon to make Chris Benoit jokes? I know, it's very tragic (as most murder/suicides are). Some of you know the love-hate relationship I have with my ass-istant at the office. She's a very charming, lazy, good-for-nothin' that we can't seem to fire, but she makes me laugh sometimes. Anyhoo, yesterday, I asked her to complete a very simple task (check the mail) and she gave me her standard "Why can't you do it yourself" response, to which I replied, "Don't make me go "Benoit" on your ass." (I figured she would get the reference since she spends about 7.5 hours a day on the Internet.) She chuckled and handed me the mailbox key. I would like to officially trademark this expression since I thought of it myself. (Honest.)

"We" (when it's in quotes, you know it's just me, right?) would like to wish a new friend (and reader here), whom we'll call "Dave" (not even CLOSE to his real name, but he knows who he is) a super HAPPY 38th BIRTHDAY! "Dave" resides in my hometown of Chicago. "Dave" is a HUGE Stevie Nicks fan and probably one of her cutest fans too (after me of course...). This lucky bastard has naturally blond hair and blue eyes. "Dave" can converse using ONLY Stevie Nicks lyrics, which, for me, is a dream come true. Sometimes our conversations make no sense at all but that's okay. "Show me the way back to the sea, "Dave."" (I LOVE the sea, don't you?) Anyways, (I have to say "anyways" because it is VERY mid-western) HAPPY BIRTHDAY "Dave!"

"Dave" shares his birthday with boxer Mike Tyson (isn't "Dave" lucky) who turned 41 today. You know what I am going to tell you next, right? Yes, "Kev" met (I guess "ran into" would be more accurate) Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. "Kev," as you know, lived in Phoenix. One day "Kev" was at Borders looking at magazines. Standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME I sensed this cagey/crazy guy (who was leafing through magazines, looking at the pictures only - I don't think he reads). I spotted the crazy tattoo on his head and knew instantly who he was. No one else seemed to notice him. I know I am going to lose a LOT of "GP's" (again, gay points) for saying this, but while afraid of him, I also found him oddly attractive. (He isn't very tall and is, of course, very muscular.) I calmly stepped away, as you would with a strange dog, and then told everyone, "HEY! Mike Tyson's in the magazine section!" Within seconds, a small crowd formed around him, asking for autographs. He looked peeved. I left. True story.

Next week I will tell you about the day Fred Goldman, father of OJ Simpson murder victim, Ronald Goldman, sold me socks! (How am I NOT a celebrity?)

Earlier in the week, I mentioned I would write about "Exodus International," an organization that proclaims "freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ."

Here's an excerpt from their web site...

"Are you struggling with unwanted same-sex attractions? Maybe you have lived as a homosexual for a long time, but now are looking for a way out. You have come to the right place! For thirty years, Exodus International has offered hope and help to people seeking freedom from homosexuality. We believe and we have seen in thousands of lives that this freedom is possible through the power of God working in our hearts and minds.

The bottom line - you don't have to be gay! You can lead a life of fulfillment and holiness as God intended, a life far better than what you have experienced so far.

The journey to wholeness isn't an easy one, but we will be with you through the process. Our international network of Christian ministries, therapists and churches are devoted to providing the love and care you need as you pursue God, holiness, and healing."

Now that I have stopped laughing, where do I begin? In my opinion, it is criminal to, a) tell someone that they can lead a fulfilled life as God intended (as if they can't live a fulfilled life if they are gay and that God disapproves of them the way they were made) and b) that they can find "freedom" from homosexuality. Simply ridiculous.

"Kev" emailed Alan Chambers (the sissy-mary above, who is the president of Exodus International). Here is, in its' entirety, the message sent to Alan... "You still LOOK very gay. You still SOUND very gay." (Poignant, right? Some might say my points were "spot on!" I am sure my comments made him reflect a little. I was questioning the effectiveness of the program, and his personal results, by basing my argument on the "walks like a duck" theory.)

Alan's reply...

I will be away from the office June 22nd - July 9th due to the annual Freedom Conference. I will have very limited access to e-mail during this time.

I look forward to responding to your e-mails when I return.

Thank you,

Alan Chambers

Isn't this the GAYEST out-of-office message you have ever seen... Nobody, except an extreme homosexual, writes an out-of-office message like this. You know he doesn't look forward to responding to your emails when he returns. Who wants to come back after 3 weeks at an (un)gay-fest/brainwashing ceremony, a.k.a., "Freedom Conference," to respond to an in-box full of email? Nobody. I also think it is a little suspect that the "Freedom Conference" takes place at the same time the rest of the world celebrates gay pride. Perhaps the "Freedom Conference" is a guise to travel the country attending as many parades and white parties as possible. You aren't fooling us Alan!

Okay kids. That's IT for today.

I hope you ALL have a GR-EAT weekend!

Love,

"Kev"

Finally, this video is for "Dave" (okay, it's for me too). You've seen this here before, but we like it, so we're posting it AGAIN.

Friday's HOT Guy...

It's FRIDAY! You know what that means... (You do know what that means don't you? Let us know!)

I have to admit, I only know one thing about today's "HOT Guy" (that he's hot...). If you follow Wimbledon (going on now through July 8th) then you may know that THIS is 27-year-old Russian tennis player Marat Safin, who WAS ranked #1 in the world.

To visit Marat's official site, (because I really don't feel like doing any research today) click HERE.

BEFORE...

AFTER...

"Kev" met former Largo City, Florida, City Manager Steve, er, Susan Stanton at last week's Pride Festival in Atlanta. I have nothing to say other than that I met her and she was very nice (and that she still walks like a man, sort of clunky/Herman Munster like, but I attribute some of that to the fact she is just learning to walk in those heels). (I was a little drunk, so I don't recall much else. You understand, right? I think my friend Ken (yes, "sistah") wanted to get me away from him/her as quickly as possible. I think I behaved pretty well though.) If you are not familiar with his/her story (it's so confusing, isn't it?), he was a very competent, professional city official FIRED for becoming a "she." He/she is fighting to win his/her job back. BEST OF LUCK SUSAN! (Aren't we really "in-depth" here? We delve in and present every angle to every story, always stimulating thought-provoking conversation, right?) The only thing I have to say is that I am glad I am just a regular old gay. No more. No less. Uncomplicated. I don't feel like a woman trapped in a man's body and I have no desire to wear women's clothing (unless it's Halloween and I am Joan Crawford, because, let's face it, that's funny).

There are a TON of movies out this weekend. "Sicko," "Ocean's Thirteen," "Live Free Or Die Hard," etc.. Go see one!

Finally, please enjoy this video of gay pop duo, Jason and deMarco! I have NEVER heard of these two until today. (Apparently, they performed at Atlanta's Gay Pride Festival, but I was VERY busy doing other gay things and did not catch their performance.) They are VERY gay (I have to admit, I laughed, hard, when I watched this video)... Thanks Mr. P.

By the way (sidebar to Mr. P.), the fact that you attended "True Colors" earned you enough GP's, that's "gay points" for those of you unfamiliar with the system, for the remainder of 2007. Since you also actually watched (and recommended) Jason and deMarco, you now have a surplus of GP's upwards of 57,000 (you only need 10,000 per year). (And these are only for activities you have submitted for credit - we assume you have done some very gay things we aren't aware of.) You are eligible to carry over GP's earned into 2008 or cash them all in for a free month at that camp we discussed in yesterday's post. Be careful not to do anything to jeopardize your standings, like not knowing all of the words to Debbie Gibson's "Electric Youth" or wearing tee-shirts, socks, etc. with holes in them ("Kev" made that mistake and was docked 1,500 GP's on the spot). Since you have a surplus of points, you are exempt from the live/stage verison of "Dreamgirls" (now at the Fox Theatre) and you are excused from Armistead Maupin's book signing/meet and greet. ("Kev's Corner" is also the official accounting firm of "GP International," founded by our very own Princess.)

That's it bitches! Have a GREAT weekend!

Much love,

"Kev"

HEY HEY WOO HOO

HEY HEY WOO HOO!

No time to write tonight BUT "we" did not want to miss an opportunity to say HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY to our friend Scott! You've seen him featured here before. He is super smart, fun and cute. He's a great husband and a great dad. Let's just say, if he swung my way, I'd nab him in a second. I could NEVER be as beautiful as his lovely wife though. Isn't she stunning?

Scott is often told he resembles Tom Cruise. Not a bad comparison, don't you think?

Anyhoo, clap your hands, stomp your feet and blow your party horn because SCOTT is 40!

I am actually looking forward to the weekend because there are a few things I have been waiting to write about. For example, did you know there are camps you can go to to "cure" your homosexuality? It's true! (It was all over CNN last night, before and after the Paris Hilton interview, so perhaps you caught it?) We of course think this is absolutely RI-DIC-U-LOUS and feel "sorry" for those who are a) suckered into spending thousands and then b) fooling themselves (and their wives) into thinking they are straight.

"Kev" also emailed Alan Chambers, head honcho (or "honchess") of "Exodus International," an organization that specializes in curing gays. Yes, his photo is above. Judge for yourself. I say WAY GAY! (I am somewhat of an expert as well.) Come back this weekend to find out WHAT "Kev" said to Alan and what Alan said back to "Kev...." (I'll start a fight with anyone via email.)

That's IT for today. Send your "Friday HOT Guy" nominations.

Love,

"Kev"

Ring The Alarm

HEY HEY, you made it! C'mon in!

It's... HUMP DAY ladies and gentlemen.

First up, Paris is FREE! Catch her first interview tonight on CNN's "Larry King Live" at 9 p.m. (ET). (I can HARDLY wait.)

"HOT" presidential candidate, John Edwards, is featured on the July/August cover of "Men's Vogue." This photo was snapped by our favorite photog, Annie Leibovitz. John Edwards recently released a statement addressing his position on gay marriage. While I didn't read it (I'm very busy), I don't think he is for it. Since both he and Matt Lauer are married, (yes, I LOVE Matt Lauer) the cause seems futile to me. Okay, I am KIDDING. I don't love Matt Lauer. And of course I believe ALL citizens should be afforded the same rights and privileges (as John Edwards and Matt Lauer).

Nancy Grace revealed that she is both married AND pregnant with twins. GOOD FOR YOU! WAY TO GO! (I don't like her.)

Okay, today is a very SPECIAL day here at "The Corner." It was on this day 29, er, 32, I mean 34 (but not more than 35, for sure) years ago that one of my dearest friends was born. While she maintains a low profile here (only commenting now and again), she is my very best friend in Atlanta. My other Atlanta friends know this. We met at the office. On my first day she said "welcome" and hugged me. We became INSTANT friends. One of her first comments to me was "You're such a blond," to which I replied, "Oh alright! It's a toupee!" (I thought she had "found me out." She's sharp that way.)

If you haven't guessed already, today is my friend June's birthday. (Tobey Maguire and Helen Keller were also born on this day, but I don't know those people.)

I have written about her here before, so you may recall that June is super cool (like a rock star). She has lived all over this country as well as abroad. She has had "amazing" life experiences (that I can't write about here, although they ARE featured in Chapter 5 of my book). She is as cute as a bug and has an adorable twinkle in her eyes. In just 5 years, I have collected volumes of memories of fun times spent with June. This includes the night we met Kim Carnes, you know, the "Bette Davis Eyes" lady from the '80's. (Neither of us cared to meet Kim Carnes, by the way. We were roped into it.) I also remember the night we were asked to work a table selling Sandi Patti CD's at the Woodruff Arts Center. For those of you who don't know Sandi Patti, she is a Christian performer, hence, I wasn't familiar with ANY of her CD's (neither was June) but we readily recommended the "best" one to those who asked. (The "best" one was the one we had the most of, so it changed throughout the night with our sales. I think we sold them all.) June has also attended a few Fleetwood Mac concerts with me, even when she was in a cast with a sprained/broken ankle (and I made her stand because I wasn't going to stand alone). She may tell you about the time we were traveling on business together when I left her, after taking a red-eye flight back home (with the aforementioned sprained/broken ankle) because I was simply too tired to wait around for her (she couldn't keep up). She may also tell you about the time I "forgot" to pick her up at the airport at 6 or 7 a.m. on a Saturday or Sunday morning. (Really, I wonder why she remains a friend?) While we don't do this anymore, and I coerced her into it, we used to attend "triple features" at the local cinema. You know, pay for one, see two more for free. It was great fun and I can see why the kids do it. We stopped once we realized our pictures were hanging up behind the concession counter (and the guilt set in).

June attends all of the "gay" functions with me. She met Billy Bean. She met Reichen (sat RIGHT next to him as a matter of fact - boy were all the gays, including me, jealous). June attended the "pride" festival with me (and had more fun than I did). She readily asked, "Are there any "HOT Guys" you want pictures of" and made me pose with a guy in a singlet and another in a speedo. She is simply, like my other best friends, nuts. I love her.

Please stomp your feet, clap your hands, ring the alarm and shout "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to my friend JUNE!

Here is June at the Atlanta Zoo. Okay, I am KIDDING. It's Phoenix. Oh, alright, we can't fool you... This was taken in Morocco. I can only imagine that this camel was a gift bestowed upon June by a young sheik she charmed out of his thobe, tagiyah and ghutra.

"We" hope you ALL have a GR-EAT day today. Please come back tomorrow because we will be celebrating yet another special someone who turns 40...

L-U-V,

"Kev"

Finally, please enjoy this video, my song for June...

UPDATE

I wanted to share this nice note/card my Grandmother sent to me (as well as other family members) today... (She's the cutest.)

Ten years ago today you were with me at Alexian Bros. Hospital when I got the heart valve. It's still ticking like a Timex! haha
I can never thank you enough for being with me through that trial. I love you very much and to my brother who helped me when I had rheumatic fever at 16 you no doubt saved my life at that time by getting me to the County Hospital. All of you were with me when I lost my son Bruce too. I have never forgotton that you were always there for me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for always being there for and with me. I love you very much. Sis and Mom and G-Ma

Time Cast A Spell On You

It's TUESDAY! YAY! (We like to rhyme things here.)

So what's up bad ass?

As everyone knows, Stevie Nicks is touring the country, promoting her latest greatest hits CD, "Crystal Visions." It's been a few days since we've mentioned ANYTHING "Stevie," so we thought we would share some photos that we love.

I have to tell you, I am quite upset that I don't have tickets yet for either of the shows in Arizona! To make matters worse, I am now friends with a few "fans" who DO have tickets and they keep asking when I am going to get mine! I am supposed to be the "super fan," so I feel like I am letting Stevie, and myself, down.

Anyhoo, a long, long time ago, when I was a little gay (clarification... young gay), I had the 45 record of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." While I liked that song, I LOVED the "B" side, which didn't become popular until many years later when it was officially released in 1998 on Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" CD. The song, that I had been singing FOR YEARS, was now playing on the radio and in the grocery store. At that time, "Kev" supervised a team of women in Arizona. One of the women modified the lyrics of this song and would sing it to "Kev." (I loved her...) She would sing, "You'll never get away from the sound of the woman who works for you." (She was right - I can STILL see/hear her singing this to me!) The song, called "Silver Springs," was written by Stevie to Lindsay Buckingham and reflected the tumultuous relationship the two had. As a gift, the rights and all proceeds generated from this song belong to Stevie's mom, Barbara Nicks. (Whom "Kev" has met and was also photographed with! She's darling.)

Since we haven't "featured" this (very intense) song here yet, we are sharing it with you today. We'd like to switch it up and say, "Time cast a spell on you. You won't forget me. Kev will follow you down till the words of his blog will haunt you." (Yes, I am punchy. That makes no sense.)

Enjoy the video though - it's one of my favorites!

Come BACK tomorrow (please) because we are going to celebrate someone VERY special to "Kev."

Much love,

"Kev"

Hugs & Kisses

Hey EVERYBODY! Just wanted to share this "HOT" picture (I found on someone else's blog...).

I hope you all had a GREAT Monday.

"Kev" is taking tonight off BUT please come back later in the week. We will be celebrating TWO of our favorite people (who both turn 29 this week)!

HAPPY PRIDE (GURL)!

Hey EVERYBODY! Today is the official day of GAY PRIDE!

HAPPY PRIDE (GURL)! No, I don't know why gays say this to one another, but it is a LOT of fun (after several vodka lemonades).

"Kev" just wants to say that I hope you all had a GREAT weekend. It was a LOT of fun here in Atlanta. (Thanks to June, Ken, Bradley and everybody we met, i.e., touched inappropriately, this weekend.)

You know how "Kev" is always on the lookout for celebrities, right? Well, "Kev" spotted Leslie Jordan again (it was pretty easy, he passed me on a float) and, hold on to your skirts, DEBORAH GIBSON! She was H-O-T, HOT! I love her! Yes, I worked my way to as close as I could get to the stage and Debbie, I mean, Deborah, was SENSATIONAL. I collected many strands of beads, even knocking people over to get them, and then gave them all away since I am not into cheap costume jewelry.

June took some photos on Saturday (although I looked WAY cuter on Sunday) and I will share those soon.

Anyway, I am heading back out now, so HAPPY PRIDE to all of you!

Much love,

"Kev"

Finally, for those of you who grew up in the '80's, like "Kev," perhaps you will enjoy this...

My Happy Place

HAPPY Saturday bitches!

How is EVERYONE today?

First things first... We don't typically write or talk about children here at the "Corner," HOWEVER, today, a certain little someone turns TWO! We would like to give a warm "Kev's Corner" HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to L'il Naomi, who is just a lamb. A British lamb at that. Simply precious. As I told her "mum," Jean, I am the WORST gay uncle (or "guncle" as my other darling "niece" calls me) EVER for not sending anything. (They live overseas though, so it's a real pain in the ass (or arse), if you know what I mean.) Anyhoo, HAPPY BIRTHDAY L'il Naomi! (I sure do miss you.)

Yesterday I said I was going to write about the "True Colors" tour, which was created by Cyndi Lauper (whom I l-o-v-e, love) as a way to "give back" to those who have supported her throughout the years while raising awareness of the issues facing the gay and lesbian community. (You know, can't marry, can't join the military, subjected to hate crimes, etc...) Instead of writing about it, I am going to take the easy way out and simply say, click HERE (bitches) so you can read about it from the people who really know what they are talking about. The "True Colors" tour made a stop in Atlanta on Thursday evening but "Kev" could not make the show, unfortunately, because, well, he didn't have a ticket... If YOU attended the show, let us know about it! (I was sorry I missed it.)

Click HERE to watch Cyndi Lauper talk about (and perform) "True Colors."

The "True Colors" tour was also sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, an organization, for those of you unfamiliar with the agency, is the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equal rights organization in the United States, with more than 700,000 members and supporters. The HRC "envisions an America where GLBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community."

We will add a link to their official site in the coming days (in case you feel inclined to learn more about them). Our super good friend (B ex BFF), David, volunteers many hours to this organization so we have asked him to write a little "sumpin' sumpin'" for all of you.

All of this talk of the "True Colors" tour, as well as the HRC, reminds me of Matthew Shepard. Everyone has heard Matthew Shepard's story, right? In case you haven't, Matthew Shepard was a promising 21-year-old college student studying at the University of Wyoming. In 1998, Matthew was tied to a split-rail fence, beaten and left to die in the cold of the night simply because he was gay. Almost 18 hours later he was found by a cyclist who initially mistook him for a scarecrow. What kind of gay blog would this be if we did not mention Matthew Shepard or the Matthew Shepard Foundation? Not a very good one.

The Matthew Shepard Foundation was created by Matthew's parents to "replace hate with understanding" through education and awareness. Along with the link to the HRC, we will also add a link to the Matthew Shepard Foundation so you can read Matthew's story as well as the goals of the foundation. While quite tragic and sad, Matthew's death has put a face and name to legislation that (if passed) "would add protections based on sexual orientation or gender identity to existing laws that target violence because of race and religion." Hopefully something good will come of something so unthinkable and violent. (I am the guy who welled up with tears when Paris Hilton was sent to jail, so you can imagine how I feel when I read about Matthew Shepard.)

While you may not hear of them on your evening news, hate crimes still exist. Every issue of "The Advocate" includes incidences of crimes committed against gays, lesbians and transgender individuals throughout the country.

Click HERE to learn more about hate crimes and to see what YOU can do. (THANKS to "Kitten" for sending this video.)

Finally, the photo at the top of the post was taken at my "HAPPY PLACE" (Starbucks) on Shaftesbury Avenue in London's West End. Although this was taken more than a year ago, I love it and wanted to post it here. When I look at it, it takes me back to that time and place (which I loved).

I hope you ALL have a GREAT Saturday!

"Kev" will be back, well, when he's back! Enjoy your weekend.

Hugs and Kisses!

"Kev"

Friday's HOT Guy...

Hey YOU! (And YOU!)

HAPPY FRIDAY!! Boy, do we have a lot of catching up to do, don't we... What's new?

It's time for another "Friday HOT Guy..." I love this guy. Cute. Fun. What more can you ask for?

If you watch NBC's "The Office" then you know that today's "HOT Guy" is actor John Krasinski, better known as "Jim Halpert." John was born on October 10, 1979 somewhere in Massachusetts. (We have no time for details today. We're busy.) In addition to starring in "The Office," John appeared in three movies, which will all be released in 2007! Google him if you are interested. Again, we're "busy."

On to other news... Did ANYONE catch the "True Colors" tour? "We" will be writing about THAT tomorrow, so if you don't know what it is, COME BACK!

Eddie Murphy IS the father of "Scary Spice," Melanie Brown's, two-month-old daughter, "Angel." You know what we say about that boys and girls... GOOD FOR YOU! (Who cares, right?)

This weekend is "GAY PRIDE" in Atlanta (as well as San Francisco). "Kev" will be "celebrating" by spending his day at the office. (I never was much into parades. Too much silliness. Silliness and non-sense. What am I talking about? I LOVE silliness. I LOVE non-sense! I also LOVE churros! They're delicious. I am really looking forward to the parade!

Well, I have to dash now...

I hope you ALL (even YOU) have a GREAT Friday!

Much love,

"Kev"

Once Upon A Time

HEY BITCHES! It's ME, "KEV!" (I am wound up tight tonight!)

I JUST got home from IKEA (I LOVE that place), where they show you how one can live in just 207 square feet! It's amazing! Since I will have more than twice the square footage than what is in their display, I am sure I will be f-i-n-e, fine!

Did everyone have a GR-EAT Wednesday? "Kev" is still super busy, so I apologize in advance that the posts aren't up to our usual standard. We ARE, however, GRATEFUL to those of you who keep sending things we can publish here!

"We" will be back later in the week, but here is some more "food for thought" (edited as needed for the gays).

This is the fairy tale that should have been read to girls (and gays) when we were little girls (gays):

Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~
In a land far, far away,
~~~~~~~~
A beautiful, independent,
Self-assured princess (i.e., gay)
~~~~~~~~
Happened upon a frog as she/he (heshe) sat
Contemplating ecological issues
On the shores of an unpolluted pond
In a verdant meadow near her castle.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the princess' lap
And said: " Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome prince,
Until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,
And I will turn back
Into the dapper, young prince that I am
~~~~~~~~
And then, my sweet, we can marry
~~~~~~~~
And set up housekeeping in your castle
~~~~~~~~
With my mother,
~~~~~~~~
Where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
Clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
And forever feel
Grateful and happy doing so. "
~~ ~~~~~~
That night,
~~~~~~~~
As the princess dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~
On lightly sauteed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
Seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
And onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
She chuckled and thought to herself:
~~~~~~~~
I don't think so.
BYE everyone!
Love,
"Kev"
This song is playing in my head today...
See Ya!
(Insert your FAVORITE greeting here.)
Welcome BACK!
"Kev" is having a severe case of "writer's block" tonight. (Sometimes just mentioning that cures it.)
So, how was your day? What's new? What did you do? (We try to be good listeners here too.)
First, we have some "sad" (and exciting) news... Our friend, "FUN Jimmy," has accepted a new position at a new company and will be relocating from Atlanta to Orange County, California, in just three weeks... Although he has only been mentioned here occasionally (and "stops in" infrequently), Jimmy is one of my best friends here in Atlanta and is the friend I have spent most weekends with. Some of the best times I have had since living here were spent with Jimmy (how do you think he got that nickname). Outside of the office, Jimmy was the FIRST friend I made when I moved here in 2003. He has a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back (literally) and probably his pants too. When he first shared the possibility of this move with me, on my birthday, I just thought he wanted to steal my thunder. You know, "one up" me on my big day. He softened the news by giving me gay porn. (I am KIDDING! He gave me a CERTIFICATE for gay porn, which I used for cards and nice stationary instead. Honest.) Now that the decision has been finalized and the move is underway, "we" would like to say "CONGRATULATIONS," "BEST OF LUCK," and "STAY IN TOUCH." It's never easy to say goodbye to a friend, so we'll just say "see ya!" (You will be missed. Tons.)
Second, "The Corner" is MOVING! No, you will not have to save a new site address to your favorites, BUT "Kev" (et al) will be relocating next month to a new condo here in the "gayborhood" just across the street. While I will miss the GR-EAT views of Atlanta (the views are inspiring), the new place is equally "spectacular" and will be all my own. I hope you will ALL come visit (okay, I am lying to you now - I won't have a guest room, so let's just correspond like we've been doing).
Lastly, okay, I have nothing left to say. I guess my writer's block is back...
Please enjoy these pictures of my "favorite" HOT guy, David Beckham.
I hope you ALL have a GR-EAT Wednesday. As always, THANKS for stoppin' in!
We will be back later in the week!
Cheap Tomatoes
Hey! Welcome back EVERYONE (bitches)!
"Kev" is super busy tonight, so he is simply sharing this commentary that was sent to him. THANKS for sending this (you know who you are, "Kitten"). Perhaps it will spark debate. Let us know where YOU stand on the issue (if you feel like it). Personally, I am ENRAGED (which my "sistah" recommended should be the name of my superhero alter-ego. Just WHAT were you trying to tell me, TINA?).
From a California school teacher. (Who is also ENRAGED.)
"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal
immigration, there are some things that you should be
aware of:
I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language
department at a large southern California high school
which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its
students average lower socioeconomic and income
levels.
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate
High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these
students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.
Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free
lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not
talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full
breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that
would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is
monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in
the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I estimate that well over 50% of these students are
obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or
more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day
care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls
(some as young as 13) so they can attend class without
the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters
or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT
WORK)
I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or
risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though
there was little need for anything; my budget was
already substantial. I ended up buying new computers
for the computer learning center, half of which, one
month later, have been carved with graffiti by the
appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I have had to intervene several times for young and
substitute teachers whose classes consist of many
illegal immigrant students here in the country less
than 3 months who raised so much hell with the female
teachers, calling them "Putas" (whores) and throwing
things that the teachers were in tears.
Free medical, free education, free food, day care
etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled
to not only be in this country but to demand rights,
privileges and entitlements?
To those who want to point out how much these illegal
immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE
their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay
less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world
of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.
Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher
medical costs, more crime, lower standards of
education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases
etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.
We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a
disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it.
Does anyone in their right mind really think they will
voluntarily leave and return?
There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens
that contribute to our country and many that I
consider my true friends. We should encourage and
accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and
legal way.
It does, however, have everything to do with culture:
A third-world culture that does not value education,
that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping
out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate,
and an American culture that has become so weak and
worried about "politically correct" that we don't have
the will to do anything about it.
If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know (or, in this case, send 'em to "Kev's Corner" where NO illegal immigrants are employed).
CHEAP LABOR?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.
Consumers don't want expensive produce.
Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.
But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap
labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. there is no such
thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and
five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour.
At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income
tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income
Tax Return, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to
$3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they
qualify for SSI. Once qualified for SSI they can
qualify for Medicare. All of this is at taxpayer's
expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance,
or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins
and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to
$30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or
$6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayer's also pay for increased crime,
graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people!
Nobody Knows I'm Gay (Except You)
Don't cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me? Don't cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me? Don't cha? (I'm just asking. Mainly because I am running out of salutations and that song, by the Pussycat Dolls, is playing on my iPod at this VERY moment!)
It's SATURDAY people! Welcome BACK! How is EVERYONE to-day? Anyone hung-over? (Just checkin'.)
It's a BEAUTIFUL day here in Atlanta (a little on the muggy side).
I have to admit, I have not been following anything in the news this past week, so I can't comment on much. (That's what CNN and People Magazine are for, right?)
Earlier in the week I told you that I was docked 6 "GP's" last weekend. I thought I would explain (I am still laughing about it). If you are a regular reader here at "The Corner," you know that a handful of "Kev's" friends from high school "stop in" here (I love all of these bitches). This includes "Princess," "Sar," "Mr. C.," and "Jean" (that's her real name so the quotes probably aren't necessary). Any one of these people will tell you that we went to high school with several people who turned up "gay." I was very proud of the fact that I led the way, being the first in a group of about 5 or 6 to "come out." (Remember, I am always first. At everything.) A couple are still in the "closet" although they are far more "fabulous" than me, i.e., not fooling anyone. HOWEVER, since that time (a long, long time ago), I have been told on occasion that I am not "gay enough." (Can you imagine that?) Straights expect their gay to be fun, fabulous, and in-the-know about all things fashion, food and "kitch." As I have said before, it's a LOT of pressure. Last weekend I was a real let down, not once, but twice. My "gay card" was almost revoked. It's true, I have no sense of fashion and am most comfortable in a hat, or "cap" (as Deborah would say). I don't like to exercise (even at the "gay" gym). I can't cook. I only saw "Dreamgirls" once. I DON'T like Barbra Streisand. I can't multitask and am easily distracted/don't pay attention most of the time when people talk to me. By some standards, including "Princess's," not a very good gay. I admit, I am not "all-the-way-gay" (which is what I call those guys who embrace their gayness and live their gay lives to the fullest. You've seen them. You know who they are. They say things like, "Oh my God, TINA!" (Even if your name isn't Tina.)
To make matters worse, our very own "Sar" was friends with Sean Hayes ("Jack McFarland," you know, "Just Jack") from "Will & Grace," who grew up in a neighboring town and is said to be JUST LIKE his character. That gay set the baton so high, no one is as fabulous as he is. I simply can't compete. For those of you who live in the Chicago area, you've seen his picture up at "Portillo's" (the best hot dog place EVER). I'm gay. I want my picture up there too.
Anyhoo, last weekend "Kev" turned up at the "W" with not one, but two holes in his sock. "Princess" was stunned. Shocked. It was VERY upsetting for her. She had to look away. It was at that time she penalized me, docking me 6 "GP's" (yes, that means "gay points," a term "Princess" coined). Then, to add insult to injury, "Kev" could not discern between the 5 shades of pink "L'il Princess" or "Princess Jr." ("Princess's" 12-year-old daughter, whom I L-O-V-E, love) adorned on her finger nails. When asked my opinion, I replied, "Well, you know, I like them all." A typically STRAIGHT, heterosexual male response to which "Princess" replied, "What kind of gay are you?" I knew I had let her down. While ALL of my friends are FABULOUS (it's true), "Princess" is the MOST fabulous. Her idol is Kate Spade. She wears Jimmy Choos. Her wit is quick. Her home is impeccable. She's a master in the kitchen (and I can only assume the bedroom as well). She deserves a "Jack McFarland," Paul Lynde or Carson Kressley in her life. Most of my life, I have tried to emulate my idea of masculinity (I know, falling short a lot of the time). This week, however, I have been working super hard to up the "fabulous factor" and earn back some "GP's" in the eyes of my beloved friend. I told her all about the new Stevie Nicks tee-shirt I acquired that reads, "The Boots Are Back!" (This has to earn me a point or two, right? I agreed to wear it out and be photographed in it for extra credit.) I even asked the sales lady if she thought the shirt was "gay." When she said yes, I replied, "Super! I'll take it."
I will end this post with the following quote (that I swiped from Reichen's MySpace page)...
"If you haven't the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you - T.S. Elliot"
(Seems like it fits today, right? Was T.S. gay? HOT?)
To "Princess," as always, thanks for making me laugh (and for helping me to be the BEST gay I can be). I "heart" you...
To the rest of my FABULOUS friends, I hope you have a super FABULOUS day. You're GORGEOUS! BEAUTIFUL! And FABULOUS. Did I mention PRETTY! (I'm tryin'!)
Much love,
"Kev"
"Kev" and "Jean," circa a long time ago. (Unlike my hair, I still have this shirt. The glasses weren't "real" either. I thought they made me look "smart.")
Friday's HOT Guy...
Okay, it's time for another "Friday HOT Guy..."
Today's "HOT Guy" is, once again, Reichen Lehmkuhl! (My husband.)
Reichen now has a line of jewelry being marketed specifically to the gays, called "Fly Naked With Reichen..." (I'm a Rolex kinda gay, so I would not wear this, but it's okay, I still love him. Tons. It is sort of "funny" that these ads are for jewelry.)
"We" thought we would share some "Corner" news that may (or may not) be of interest to you... "We" are still planning to advertise on the site (just have not had time to work on this), we are still trying to re-create the header (with something FUN and catchy) AND we are working to add music to each post so you have something nice to listen to each and every day. Next month we will celebrate our one year anniversary (can you believe it) and "we" want the blog to be something YOU enjoy reading every day.
That said, I am not going to try to "fool" you today folks. I am going to "shoot straight." I'm tired. SO, instead of trying to waste any more room in cyberspace, I am simply going to share these pictures, and tell you that I hope you have a GR-EAT Friday!
This is an EXCITING weekend for several of you... One of you is with Stevie Nicks in New Jersey (lucky bastard), another is having a GRAND fete to ring in the big 4-0, a couple of you will be BACK STAGE with "The Police" and one of you is having a moving sale. All of you, however, are in my thoughts and I wish I could be with each and every one of you. (Especially you. And you. And, of course, YOU!)
"Kev" WILL be back tomorrow but PA-LEEZ enjoy these pictures of Reichie (that's what I call him). "We" also included one of Matthew McConaughey for those of you who prefer him.
Much love,
"Kev"
