Enchanted

HELLO EVERYONE!

If YOU were in New York TODAY, YOU may have MET Stevie Nicks at her Barnes & Noble DVD/CD release signing! (I could not make it - times are tough, although I would have been...)

Believe me or squeeze me, there is actually a BIGGER/more dedicated Stevie Nicks fan than myself... I know, you didn't think it could be, but it's TRUE. EVERYONE, please give a warm "Corner" welcome to ALICIA! Alicia (aka, "Enchanted One," and yes, she is) and I actually met at either a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks concert BUT we did not really connect again until my BFF/#1 said, "Hey, Scott (#1's husband) works with a man whose wife is a BIG Stevie Nicks fan," I said, immediately, "I KNOW HER!" (And I DID!) Alicia is kind enough to send me Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac related items almost daily (including very cool things by mail) and "we" can't tell her enough how much "we" (again, me) appreciate that! (It is VERY exciting for me to get a piece of mail with Stevie Nicks stickers all over it! Until Alicia, no one had done that for me, and I keep/save each and every one!) Since Alicia really is Stevie's #1 fan (she can trump anyone I know in this respect), I felt compelled to relinquish my limited-edition Stevie Nicks "barbie" doll to her (with boots, a cape, 80's hair AND tambourine) for her shrine (which I hope to visit soon)... She deserves it more than I do. If you own Stevie's latest DVD of the October 2007 Soundstage performance, you can actually SEE Alicia in it (again, in the front row.) "We" would actually LOVE if Alicia would write something here for "The Corner" (hint hint) about her experiences as a fan over the years. Alicia has met Stevie many times, been photographed with her/the band, been to a zillion and one shows (mostly in the front row), recently received a signed Stevie Nicks lithograph (I got one too but mine is UNSIGNED and I am VERY jealous!) etc.., etc... I just can't "compete" with her. She is royalty among the fans and if you spot her at a show (in the front row, of course) it's almost as fun as meeting Stevie herself. She IS "the gypsy that remains..." (OH, I am "willing" my one of a kind, '4 X '6 picture of Stevie TO Alicia because she is the only person I know who would appreciate it as much as I do...) THANKS ALICIA for being such a gracious and sharing friend!

Okay, so Alicia sent THIS Entertainment Weekly article today and we are sharing it here with you... I love it!

It's been more than 30 years since the world first met Stevie Nicks—mystical Fleetwood Mac chanteuse, famously excessive solo star, leather-and-lace pop icon. Yesterday, the original Gold Dust Woman sat down with EW to discuss her new live album, The Soundstage Sessions, and companion DVD Live in Chicago, both out today. Though she is now 60, and many years sober, she looks very much the same: pink cupids bow mouth, long sweep of blond hair, diminutive (minus her habitual platform boots) five-foot-one frame draped in red chiffon.

Ensconced on an overstuffed couch in her suite at New York's Waldorf-Astoria and surrounded by her two pocket-sized dogs and a towering spray of white orchids, Nicks tell the stories behind some of her most memorable compositions; songs that have been covered by everyone from the Dixie Chicks to Dave Grohl, but are still, and always, signature Stevie.

"Gypsy"
"Oh boy, I’ve never really spoken about this, so I get verklempt, and then I’ve got the story and I start to screw it up. Okay: In the old days, before Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey [Buckingham] and I had no money, so we had a king-size mattress, but we just had it on the floor. I had old vintage coverlets on it, and even though we had no money it was still really pretty... Just that and a lamp on the floor, and that was it—there was a certain calmness about it. To this day, when I’m feeling cluttered, I will take my mattress off of my beautiful bed, wherever that may be, and put it outside my bedroom, with a table and a little lamp.

That's the words: 'So I’m back to the velvet underground'—which is a clothing store in downtown San Francisco, where Janis Joplin got her clothes, and Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane, it was this little hole in the wall, amazing, beautiful stuff—'back to the floor that I love, to a room with some lace and paper flowers, back to the gypsy that I was.'

So that’s what 'Gypsy' means: it’s just a search for before this all happened. And later, I tacked on a line for my friend Robin, my best friend, who died of leukemia: 'I still see your bright eyes.' But then, Robin wasn’t sick yet. She got cancer, and died within a year."

"Edge of Seventeen"
"This was written right after John Lennon was assassinated. That was a very scary and sad moment for all of us in the rock ’n roll business, it scared us all to death that some idiot could be so deranged that he would wait outside your apartment building, never having known you, and shoot you dead. If you were the president of the United States, maybe, but to just be a music person, albeit a Beatle? And to be shot and killed in front of your apartment, when you had a wife and two kids? That was so unacceptable to all of us in our community. So the white dove was John Lennon, and peace.

"Now, for me, it has taken on something else. I feel like I hear war, because I go to visit soldiers in Bethesda and at Walter Reed [Army Medical Center], and when I hear their stories... We can’t even imagine what they’re going through, the violence. So when I sing ‘Flood of tears that no one ever really heard fall at all / Oh I went searching for an answer, up the stairs and down the hall,'—'the call of the nightbird' is death, and I think of them in the desert, coming around corners, the fear, waiting to be ambushed. It’s very foreboding, ominous."

"Sara"
"It’s not about Mick’s Fleetwood's ex-wife, who was also one of my best friends, even though everybody thinks it is. I used her name because I love the name so much, but it was really about what was going on with all of us at that time. It was about Mick’s and my relationship, and it was about one I went into after Mick. Some songs are about a lot of things, some songs only have one or two lines that are that main thing, and then the rest of it, you’re just making a movie, writing a story around this one paragraph, that little kernel of life. 'When you build your house' was about when you get your act together, then let me know, because until you get your act together, I really can’t be around you."

EW: Some people have said it's about Don Henley, whom you dated around that time too...

"He wishes! If Don wants to think the' 'house' was one of the 90 houses he built—and he did build house after beautiful house, and once they were done, he would move because he wasn’t interested in them anymore [laughs]... No. He is one of my best friends in the world. If anything happened to me, he would be there, always. But if someone said that, they're so full of s---!"

"Crash Into Me"
written by Dave Matthews
"Oh, as soon as that song came out I said, I want it. I want to do that song! And the answer from every single person was, 'This is really a man’s song, you can’t do it.' So I was like, “Alright, whatever,” but in my head I said, ‘But I will do this song. It’s a twisted song, so I’ll just twist it even more, and make it fit me.' Now live, where he would sing 'In a boy’s dream' I have the [backup] girls go 'And the boys sing...' Then I can do those lines: [singing] 'Hike up your skirt a little more, and show your world to me.' Dave’s actually very sexual, his writing. But I don’t know if he likes it or not. I invited him to come to the taping for PBS, and he never got back to us. I thought he would! But you know, his wife was having a baby, I think."

"How Still My Love"
"I really don’t write extremely sexual songs, never have. I’m always going to write about the bouquets and the flowers [laughs]. But 'How Still My Love' really is a sexy song, and being that it’s one of my few sexy songs, when we do it onstage it’s fun. It’s kind of woozy and it’s slow, but it’s got a really great beat—kind of a strip-tease, a little burlesque, a little Dita Von Teese-y. The title actually came from two different books I saw in some hotel, one was called How Still My Love and one was called In the Still of the Night, and I used both, but I never even opened up the books [laughs], so I have no idea what they were about. Whenever I come into a room with a library, in a hotel or whatever, I pull them all down and just sit—I get a lot of ideas that way."

"The Circle Dance"
written by Bonnie Raitt
"I love to do this song. Bonnie’s dad, John Raitt, was a big music guy, Broadway, and he would be gone a lot when Bonnie was growing up. And when you’re young, you don’t think 'Oh, they have to work,' you just think, 'They’re gone and it’s my fault.' You know, the words, 'I’ll be home soon, that’s what you’d say, and a little kid believes / after a while I learned that love must be a thing that leaves.' But when her father was older, there was a peace she found with him. And in many ways the song can be about a romantic relationship too, about letting go: 'Time has made things clearer now.'"

"Beauty and the Beast"
It was definitely about Mick, but it’s also based on the 1946 Jean Cocteau movie. I first saw it on TV one night when Mick and I were first together, and I always thought of Mick as being sort of Beauty and the Beast-esque, because he’s so tall and he had beautiful coats down to here, and clothes made by little fairies up in the attic, I always thought [laughs], so he was that character in a lot of ways. And also, it matched our story because Mick and I could never be. A, because Mick was married, and then divorced and that was not good, and B, because of Fleetwood Mac.

Lindsey had barely survived the breakup of Lindsey and Stevie, much less would he not survive the relationship of Stevie and Mick. So Mick told Lindsey, even though I thought it was totally the wrong thing to do, and two days later we broke up. But of course Lindsey never forgave me for years, if ever. All the great love stories are the love that cannot be. And in the midst of that whole thing, Mick fell in love with my best friend Sara. So the moral is, Don’t go out with a gorgeous rock star who goes on the road, just don’t! Because it will never, ever work out."

"Landslide"
"I was in Colorado around 1973, after me and Lindsey's first record, and we’d just been dropped. Lindsey had been offered a tour with the Everly Brothers, it was a good salary and we really needed the money, so we went to where either Don or Phil Everly lived, in Aspen, to rehearse. I had my best friend with me, and we went out to dinner one night and met these great guys, they just gave us their living room in their three-bedroom apartment—we stayed there for three months.

"So one day while I was sitting there sitting on their floor, looking out the window at all the snow, I made a decision whether I wanted to continue a relationship with Lindsey, musically and romantically, and I decided that I was gonna give it another try, because we weren’t getting along very well, but the music was important. But I never told him what it was about 'til years and years later, maybe only in the last five. I knew it was a good song. Whether I had sense if it would do anything or go anywhere? I don’t know [laughs]. But I knew it was really good."

Now please enjoy Alicia's SIGNED lithograph... (Mine looks like this minus the signature) AND pictures from today's DVD/CD signing!

Much love -

Priest of Nothing.

Guess Who's Coming For Supper?

I am running out of greetings people. (HELP!)

It's MONDAY (and I don't like Mondays, not at all, except I DO like Monday night TV!)

THANKS to EVERYONE for the comments about the ING Half Marathon. I really DID appreciate it. I told myself if the half marathon went well that I would a) get a pet and b) sign up for a full marathon. To that end... I am NOW registered for the Bank of America Chicago 2009 Marathon which will take place on October 11, 2009! (October 11 is also "National Coming Out Day" AND the birthday of my ex-BF, Steve!) Anyhoo, to my friends in Chicago, save a place at the table! I'm coming for supper (a pasta supper, that is)! Some of you know that I grew up outside of Chicago, so running THIS marathon has significance for me! I will write more about this as the date draws near!

Alright, enough about me. What's going on with YOU? What d'ya know/what's your story? Let "us" know, would ya?

Friday!

It's FRIDAY folks! (If nothing else, we ALWAYS tell YOU what day it is here at "The Corner.")

The picture above and the picture below make me smile... These two adorable little girls are, of course, my friend Carrie's daughters, Amanda and Eva. These pictures were too cute NOT to share here.

Okay, "Kev" (that's me) was out WAY too late last night so I gotta go now (and recuperate).

Come back soon!

Kevin

It's YOU!

Look who's here! It's YOU (and it's ME)!

How are YOU today? I am f-i-n-e, fine.

As you might know... The ING Marathon/Half Marathon is THIS Sunday here in Atlanta and "Kev" (lame third-person reference to myself) is READY (I think...).

Here's some info about the race:

The staging area for the start & finish will be in the heart of downtown Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park. You will run through scenic areas such as the Sweet Auburn district, which houses the famous Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Martin Luther King Center. You will also run by the house where Dr. King was born and then on through historical Inman Park with its magnificent restored homes. The course continues through the eclectic Little 5 Points, then breaks away from the ING Georgia Marathon course onto Freedom Parkway and around The Carter Center for one of the best views of the city. Continuing into the Virginia Highlands neighborhood with spectators cheering participants on as they head into Piedmont Park and finally through the beautiful Georgia Tech Campus to the finish line where the party begins at Centennial Olympic Park!

Here is the link to the official site: www.inggeorgiamarathon.com.

Okay, that's IT for today. Come back tomorrow (if you feel up to it).

Hugs!

Kevin

Here is a song for... ME!

Monday

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE!

"We" hope YOU had a GREAT day today.

Our friend Russ is now in Prague but I am too lazy to upload the bevy of photos received today.

I was so disturbed by the video I shared/posted yesterday, that I went back to YouTube to see if this guy/gal bastardized anymore songs. Sure enough, he/she did... Take a look-see (it's tragic).

Oddly enough, he/she hasn't garnered any comments about his performance. I would write and tell him just how horrific he is but that would require me joining/creating a YouTube account and, well, I just don't care that much.

Alrighty Aphroditey (sp?), I'm signing off for now.

Flying

Hello EVERYONE!

It's Thursday! What's up with you?

Unfortunately, I have NOTHING to write about EXCEPT "Kev" (ME!) has a new friend who is a pilot AND I/me/"Kev" (all three of my personalities) are going flying tomorrow. YAY!(That's fun, right?) I will let YOU know how it goes!

Have a GREAT Friday.

Love -

Kevin

Sunday

Hello EVERYONE! It's... SUNDAY! (How do you like the picture above? Pretty "hot," right?)

"We" hope YOU are doing f-i-n-e, fine today.

"Kev" (that's me) attended Olivia Newton-John's concert last week at the Cobb Energy Center in Marietta, Georgia. The seats were in the mezzanine (not "Kev Quality") but good nonetheless. The show was, well, what I expected... Olivia performed all of her "hits" and was perky/personable throughout. Did you know she has a fan club (that we had the misfortune of sitting behind)? It's true. These people were whack (and drunk). They were VERY excited. They came with glow sticks in hand, which they used to form an "X" when Olivia sang "Xanadu." They offered us glow sticks and asked that we participate, but, well, that was just too gay. I wasn't doing it. They proudly wore their Olivia tees displaying all of the cities on the tour route (none of which I had ever heard of). I appreciated and understood their enthusiasm though. Anyway, I admit, when Olivia sang the song below, it made me cry a little (inside). It is from the movie/musical "Grease," which reminds me of my Grandfather because he took my sister and me to see it when it was in theatres. (And you thought it reminded me of a stupid boy... Not this time.) Thanks Azor, for arranging the night!

Okay, here is some more EXCITING news... I already told you that friend Zane and I will be seeing Fleetwood Mac (5-star/VIP seats) here in Atlanta (including a band "meet and greet")... Well, "Kev" (again, me) will be seeing two additional shows this tour (shows 2 & 3 both in the 5th row) in other cities. Really, it's all I live for.

Have a good week everyone.

Drunk On Britney

What's going on up in here you dirty sons of bitches? LOL! I'm drunk. On Britney! Tomorrow is the big day. I think Britney is already here in Atlanta - I can "sense" her... The gays in Atlanta are VERY excited, you know and I finally know what I will wear to the show! It's "winning" (and age appropriate so I won't look like an asshole).

I am also a little drunk on Stevie! As you know, Fleetwood Mac began their tour this week. The photo above was sent to me by my friend Alicia.

Okay, I gotta get out of here.

Bye everyone.

Up In Here

WUZ UP BITCHES?!; It's TUESDAY! (YAY!)

I hope YOU had a GREAT day! Can you tell I am "wild-eyed" and "crazy?" It's true... Britney's "Circus" show is just two nights away and it's ALL I can think about - it's consuming me! (Plus I only had about 3 hours of sleep last night, courtesy of The Hampton Inn in beautiful Valdosta, Georgia, where the fat bastard in the room next to me snored so loud I could hear him through the wall.)

I adopted a new (to me) expression into my vocabulary recently and, well, I just love it and want YOU to adopt it too... Tonight whilst shopping with a friend (again, for the Britney pre-concert party at my crib), I smelled a foul odor at the Kroger (grocery), to which I stated, "Who farted up in here?" (My friend did not know.) Then, while looking for an item on the list, I asked, "You ain't got no popcorn up in here?" (I need popcorn... What would a circus party be without popcorn?) It turned out they DIDN'T have any popcorn up in there so I will try again tomorrow to find some popcorn up in somewhere else. After throwing out the phrase "up in here" no less than 7 more times, my friend advised that I was getting on his nerves (up in there). LOL! I was getting on my own nerves too. I can hardly believe I am (almost...) 42! I need a sedative.

So today I had an uber important business meeting and, as a joke to myself and as a way to break the tension I was feeling, I purposely tried to integrate Britney Spears song titles or lyrics into the discussion I lead, which was primarily on the new American Recovery And Reinvestment Act of 2009 (better known as the "stimulus package.") You gotta make these meetings fun up in there, you know what I'm sayin'? I referred to myself as the "ringleader" and threw around the term "toxic" once or twice. It was great fun. Also, I have to give props (I like saying "give props" too) to my BFF, #1... #1 knew how anxious I was going into this 3 hour meeting today (because I called her in a lather) and she gave me a pep talk that I think only a mother and wife and #1 could. (She's good...) I forgot I was even nervous up in there.

TODAY is one of my HOTTEST friends (ever) birthdays! We would like to give props and shout out up in here to TIM, whom I call Tiger, on his big day. Tim is married to another one of my BFF's, "Kitten," and is father to "L'il Kitty" as well. Anyhoo, Tim, if you were close by, I would spank you. No, Tim doesn't read this silliness (he's too HOT I suppose) but by proxy, I am hoping "Kitten" will pass on our regards.

Yes, I am super tired (can you tell up in here?).

President Obama announced plans to bring most of the troops home from Iraq by August of next year. Isn't that GREAT news? They need to be up in here instead of up in over there.

That's IT for today (up in here).

Be back later in the week (up in here). (I can't stop saying that.)

Circus

HELLO EVERYONE!

It is snowing, yes, I said it, SNOWING, here in the A-T-L!

Who cares about the snow though because BRITNEY SPEARS will be here (at Philips Arena) THIS Thursday promoting her latest CD, "Circus". While I am morally opposed to the circus (elephants should be running in the jungle, not doing hand stands in a tent for children and let's be real - clowns are scary), I can't WAIT to see Britney's circus!

Where will I (and friend) be sitting, you might ask? Row 1 of the V-I-HOLLA- P section, which, for "Circus," is called "the ring." Excited? Most certainly (the show will be performed in the round with general admission standing BUT there is one row of VIP seats next to the stage). Who died and went to gay Heaven? Me! ("Pre-concert party" at my crib!) For those of you tracking your 2009 GP's (that's gay points, you know, to hold your standing), the show is worth 1,000 points. If you are in the front row of the VIP section, your points are multiplied by 100 giving you (let me run the numbers..) 10,000 points! (Yes, I consulted the official guide for 2009.) An extra 500 points are awarded if you host the pre-concert party and ADDITIONAL points may be granted on the quality/creativity of the pre-party itself, you know, decorate like a circus, serve peanuts, hire some creepy paparazzi, answer the door dressed as Britney strapped to a gurney - you get it (so I have some work to do...).

Anyhoo, I love THIS song/video. (Promise me you'll watch it.) (I'm a "put-on-a-show kinda girl" too! "don't like the backseat, gotta be first!") Britney looks HOT!

Please sing along, like I do. Here are the lyrics -

there's only two types of people in the world
the ones that entertain
and the ones that observe

well baby I'm a put-on-a-show kinda girl
dont like the backseat
gotta be first

I'm like the ringleader
I call the shots
I'm like a fire cracker
I make it hot
when I put on a show

I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins
spotlight on me and I'm ready to break
I'm like a performer, the dancefloor is my stage
better be ready, hope that ya feel the same

all eyes on me in the center of the ring
just like a circus
when I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip
just like a circus
don't stand there watching me
follow me, show me what you can do
everybody let go, we can make a dance floor
just like a circus

there's only two types of guys out there
Ones that can hang with me
and ones that are scared
so baby, I hope that you came prepared
I run a tight ship, so beware

I'm like the ringleader
I call the shots
I'm like a fire cracker
I make it hot
when I put on a show

I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins
spotlight on me and I'm ready to break
I'm like a performer, the dancefloor is my stage
better be ready, hope that ya feel the same

all eyes on me in the center of the ring
just like a circus
when I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip
just like a circus
don't stand there watching me
follow me, show me what you can do
everybody let go, we can make a dance floor
just like a circus

let's go
let me see what you can do
I'm running this (like,like a circus)
yeah, like a what (like a circus)

Okay, I gotta go lift a weight or do a sit up.

Love and Britney Hugs...

UPDATE -

It's just another great night to be gay (or straight!). Fleetwood Mac's "Unleashed" tour opened tonight and I have been getting "up to the minute" reports on the set list and costumes! It is just VERY exciting stuff. They are performing some songs they have never performed live before! Yes, I have a VIP/meet and greet ticket for that show too... No, I am never going to be able to retire.
