Home Of The Rams...

Hey Everybody! It's, you guessed it, WEDNESDAY! Tonight is another very "SPECIAL" night here at "Kev's Corner..." As you know, "Kev" has been looking to expand staff (to take this monkey off his back for a day or two) and even approached a homeless man today on the street, inquired about his writing skills and asked what he was doing today (besides meth). OK, I am kidding... it looked like crack. (Actually, Atlanta is the methamphetamine capital of the world, which is a TRUE statistic.) Luckily, it has not come to that, because "Kev's" friend, Sara, has come to his rescue and taken the reigns for the evening!

It is only befitting that Sara be the FIRST guest blogger for so many reasons... "Kev" and Sara have been friends since the 2nd grade when they formed a friendship playing hop scotch in the school yard (and outside "Kev's" house on the sidewalk). Sara was "Kev's" FIRST girlfriend, and no, my dear, you did not turn me gay... If it weren't for Sara, "Kev" may not be driving today... The only class "Kev" EVER cheated in was, get this, Driver's Ed. (Thanks Sara, signs are hard.) Sara is SUPER smart (I don't know why she talks to me) and graduated #5 in our high school class of (approximately) 350. Sara referred "Kev" for the position that launched his career 12 years ago (no lie, THANKS A LOT for that Sara, I owe you...). And lest I forget, the first time "Kev" was ever drunk was courtesy of Sara. (No, I would not care for another Jagermeister...) Sara is like a big sister to me, although she is younger (she is 22, I am 25) because she has always been so wise, practical, yet fun and loving. Fun factoid... Sara was friends with "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes ("Just Jack") while in high school! Sara is an accomplished pianist and cellist. Sara has three children, including her twin daughters who are now in the grade Sara and I were when we met... Finally, while my Grandmother named me "Kev" (well, Kevin...) (thanks again to my Grandma for that - hugs & kisses to you) and "Kev's" friend, Jean, named "Kev's Corner," it was Sara who said, "You're nuts. You should write a blog." Because I always do as I am told, thanks to Sara, "Kev's Corner" was created.

Without further adieu, please give a big warm "Kev's Corner" welcome to my good friend, "Sar..."

I have no idea why "Sar" volunteered to be guest blogger for "Kev." It is most likely to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about herself in the 3rd person. If nothing else Sar realizes that it is exhausting to try and figure out what sort of random thoughts might keep the interest of Kev's faithful readers. Then again, you get what you pay for, Kev.

Ack! screw the 3rd person thing; too hard.

As Kev and I (and others in our high school circle of friends) prepare for our class reunion next week, I have been pondering this question: Why are some of us thoroughly excited about this (really, almost pathetic) event, while others of us wouldn't go near the reunion with a 10-foot Ram's horn? (Yes, we were the "Home of the Rams!")

Is it because we in the Giddy Bunch were ridiculously popular, loving all and loved by all, and we can't wait to relive those warm fuzzy high school feelings? HARDLY.

Is it because we the Giddy Bunch are over-the-top fabulous now, and are proud of everything we've accomplished in the 20 years since we left those hallowed (smelly) halls? No, that can't be it, because although we Giddy Bunch are fabulous and accomplished, those in the Ram's Horn bunch (one of them in London, one of them in Dallas, one of them in Chicago, others elsewhere) are all equally, if not more, fabulous and accomplished.

Is it because those in the Ram's Horn bunch are of a higher caliber of individual, and do not feel the need to learn which cheerleaders got fat? Judging by the Ram's Horn traffic to the profiles section of our class website, I'd say that's probably not the case.

Is it because the high school years were just too painful for the Ram's Horns to relive? Well, I think that might be true in one case, but then again some in the Giddy bunch weren't exactly "Walking on Sunshine" back then. (extra points for my 80's music reference)

One recurring theme is "I see everyone from high school now that I want to see." But I'd say that's the case for those of us in the Giddy Bunch as well.

So, what is it that differentiates us? I really can't figure it out. Please respond and let Kev know how you feel, regardless of your high school reunion status.

Click I LOVED THE 80's! if you would like to download Katrina and the Waves's "Walking On Sunshine" ringtone for your cellular phone! (Because I couldn't find the video...)

"Kev's" Post Script:
First, to Sara, THANK YOU for your contribution. I can't wait to see you next week! I am already having dreams (unpleasant ones) about the upcoming reunion and am only participating because I was "wrangled" by a couple certain someones... I gotta ask though, who called us the Giddy Bunch? Was I in this group or the Ram Horns (cause I like that gang name better and would like to switch over to that team if possible. I am sure Shaun Longson is a Ram Horn... Shaun, for those of you who didn't know him, was this really HOT, blonde kid who, while in high school, had the body of a 25-year-old, and wore red underwear, which was progressive back then). I actually felt "blessed" to be included among the group of friends (the "Giddy Bunch" as Sara has proclaimed us) that I was and credit them for some of my own successes (like finishing high school and going to college... Peer pressure can be a good thing!)

Hi Sar,

I'm so heartened to read about someone so unabashedly excited to go to her 20 year reunion. I just went to my 20th a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time! Of course being rich and great looking makes almost anything fun!!

Let me know if you want to get together for drinx sometime.

P.S.
Ty, if Sar can't meet for "drinx," I can... I will NEVER forget the time you taught me how to craft a lamp out of a plunger... Perhaps you have something else up your sleeve?

i don't know that i have any perspective on the distinctions between the "giddies" and the "rams horns", but...
i did not go to my 10 year reunion...not enough time had passed. i decided to go to my 20th, although reluctantly and a little nervously. i am now officially a "rams horn"...wild trojans couldn't drag me to another one of those things (you guessed it...team name). i'm not sure if it's because i was the only person in attendance who couldn't soften the blow with cocktails (i was preggers), or if i was soooo traumatized by the sight of drunk former cheerleaders actually DOING CHEERS on the dance floor. either way...i've seen enough.
