Fancy
Can you say four hundred and thirty? That's the number of TONIGHT's post! What's up everybody? Welcome back!
It is a beautiful evening here in the A-T-L (in the low 70's). The sun is setting on the plaza and it's a nice site to see.
What should we talk about tonight? How about Hillary? "Kev" was very happy that Hillary won Ohio, Texas (and some other states) on Tuesday. Hillary is still "in it" and "we" hope she wins.
Do any of you watch "Dancing With The Stars?" The next season is set to start and I heard a "rumor" that former teen idol, Kristy McNichol, would be appearing. Unfortunately, this was simply conjecture/not true (damn you "Inside Edition"). (Skating sensation Kristi Yamaguchi, however, will appear.) Anyhoo, Kristy McNichol was my "favorite" teen idol growing up. She was the shiz, wasn't she? I had several posters, i.e., covers of "Teen Beat" taped to my wall. Not only did I watch "Family" each and every Sunday (I loved "Buddy" - she was pensive/dramatic, just like me), I saw "The Bad News Bears" and "Little Darlings" about 5 times each AND, best of all, I had the Kristy/Jimmy McNichol album! I miss Kristy (who has gone into seclusion for health, as in mental, reasons). I would love to meet her. I think she is the only celebrity (after David Beckham and Ricky Martin) that I really truly want to meet. Her rendition of "That's The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is powerful. Okay, I don't know what the song is really about. I can tell you though - the power/lights do go out here in Georgia frequently. She could have been singing about one of those nights. I don't know. Anyways, this song goes through my head every time the lights go out. I couldn't find Kristy's version of the song, but (try to) enjoy these two (it isn't good). (And if you ask me, Kristy, not Kristi, should do "Dancing With The Stars.")
I used to sing this song along with Kristy (now I sing it alone)...
This cracked me up a little (the "Family Guy" clip)...
One "Dancing With The Stars" contestant that "Kev" did meet/does have a picture with is actress Shannon Elizabeth. Remember her from the "American Pie" movies? She was VERY polite/kind when I met her. What impressed me about her was that she introduced herself. She said, "I am Shannon Elizabeth." Most celebrities assume you know who they are. Although I DID know who she was . (Here's a little tip that some of you people may not know that I am going to share with you... When these celebrities work the red carpets, etc., their handler/PR person runs about 10 feet ahead of them telling everyone who they are, lest they be offended. Wouldn't you love someone to do that for you? No matter where you are, like at the grocery store, have some lunatic preceding you, telling anyone who would listen, "(Insert your name here) is COMING!" Again, Shannon was nice. I respected the fact that she was so human. If I were a hetero teen boy, it probably would have been extra special (she's posed nude a gazillion times).
Unlike John Schneider ("Bo Duke" from the original "Dukes of Hazard") who I met just minutes before Shannon. (I did not like him but it's probably because he would not let me slap his ass. I think he picked up on the gay vibe I was sending him as well as my arm around his waist.) Does anyone want to see the pictures?
Okay, like I said, it's a nice night here and there is a margarita with my name on it (literally, they write your name on the glass).
Have a GR-EAT evening folks.
Love,
"Kev"
A 300 pound drag queen, "Sofonda Cox," performed THIS song at "Burkhart's" on Sunday. Now I can't get it (or the vision of "Sofonda") out of my head... (Some of you were there - you know...) Tragic, yet entertaining. (The lyrics are provided, as a courtesy, for those of you who would like to sing along.)
Fancy
I remember it all very well lookin' back
It was the summer I turned eighteen
We lived in a one room, rundown shack
On the outskirts of New Orleans
We didn't have money for food or rent
To say the least we were hard pressed
Then mama spent every last penny we had
To buy me a dancin' dress
Mama washed and combed and curled my hair
And she painted my eyes and lips then I stepped into a satin
Dancin dress that had a split on the side clean up to my hip
It was red velvet trim and it fit me good
Standin' back from the lookin' glass
There stood a woman where a half grown kid had stood
She said here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Mama dabbed a little bit of perfume on my neck
And she kissed my cheek
Then I saw the tears wellin' up in her troubled eyes
When she started to speak
She looked at a pitiful shack
And then she looked at me and took a ragged breath
She said your Pa's run off and I'm real sick
And the baby's gonna starve to death
She handed me a heart shaped locket that said
To thine own self be true
And I shivered as I watched a roach crawl across
The toe of my high heel shoe
It sounded like somebody else that was talkin'
Askin' mama what do I do
She said just be nice to the gentlemen Fancy
And they'll be nice to you
She said here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Lord forgive me for what I do, but if you want out
Well it's up to you
Now don't let me down you better start movin' uptown
Well, that was the last time I saw my ma
The night I left that rickety shack
The welfare people came and took the baby
Mama died and I ain't been back
But the wheels of fate had started to turn
And for me there was no way out
And it wasn't very long til I knew exactly
What my mama's been talkin' about
I knew what I had to do but I made myself this solemn vow
That is gonna be a lady someday
Though I don't know when or how
I couldn't see spending the rest of my life
With my head hung down in shame you know
I might have been born just plain white trash
But Fancy was my name
Here's your one chance Fancy dont let me down
Here's your one chance Fancy dont let me down
It wasn't very long after a benevolent man
Took me off the street
And one week later I was pourin' his tea
In a five room hotel suite
I charmed a king, a congressman
And an occasional aristocrat
Then I got me a Georgia mansion
In an elegant New York townhouse flat
And I ain't done bad
Now in this world there's a lot of self-righteous hippocrits
That would call me bad
And criticize mama for turning me out
No matter how little we had
But though I ain't had to worry bout nothin'
For nigh on fifteen years
I can still hear the desperation in my poor
Mama's voice ringin' in my ear
She said, here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down
Lord, forgive me for what I do
But if you want out well it's up to you
Now don't let me down
Your mama's gonna help you uptown
I guess she did

KEV!
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!:@#$??
It's land lady. I think of you and wonder how you are. We HAVE to get together soon. CALL ME. I'LL CALL YOU. LET'S CALL EACH OTHER! Come see the new house. I'll play some of that gad awful music you like so well. You know - LeAnn Rhimes or Stevie Nicks.
Call me!
Rich
How are you my friend? I will call you (what's your number)? Just kidding. I mean, I'm not kidding about calling. (I will call) I'm kidding about no longer having your number. You got it, right? (I'm tired.) YES, I definitely want to see your house. I love that neighborhood. Can I spend the night? (I'm just saying - it's far from here.) P.S. You misspelled LeAnn's name. It's Rimes (no H.)
BTW - Reba? Really? I thought you didn't like her? Isn't she a LeAnn rival?
Oh contrar. (I can't spell that.) You are correct that I find Reba a bit clown like (don't care for her look or her politics) but, unfortunately, she and LeAnn are in fact friends. LeAnn performed on Reba's latest album (in which she tried to resurect her career by enlisting the assistance of talented/young/hip people.
Oh, it all makes sense now.......
