My Friend Mick Fleetwood
WUZ UP BITCHES?!; It's really late, I am SUPER drunk (it's true...) and it is now officially FRIDAY!! YAY!
Alright, if you read Tuesday's post, then you know that "Kev" (hey, that's MY name!) was a "5-star VIP" at the Fleetwood Mac concert here in Atlanta on Tuesday. It's true... I am still reeling from the evening! You want to hear (read) all about it? Okay... here's what went "down..."
First, you pay a real lot of money to the "I Love All Access" people for a 5-Star VIP ticket! (It's worth it.) They guarantee you a seat for the concert in the first 10 rows PLUS a buffet dinner and (hold your skirts...) MEET 'n GREET with MICK FLEETWOOD!! We (neighbor/friend Zane) arrived at our secret location at Philips Arena at 5:30 p.m. where we met "Cory," our guide for the evening. Cory was nice. We checked in, signed a waiver (you know, all the things you promise you won't do or say whilst backstage/onstage, etc... and while in the presence of celebrities, then you loose your shit and do/say those things anyway). Once checked in, we shopped hassle free at one of the merchandise tables. I didn't have to push or shove anyone out of my way, so it was nice. As usual, I was first! (It's how I like it, okay.) I bought a real cute/tight Fleetwood Mac t-shirt with the trademark "penguin" on the front. (Fits real good - I look darling in it.) I also bought Fleetwood Mac "dog tags" that looked super gay, so I gave them away before the show even started, and a refrigerator magnet. Next (this is going to be a real long paragraph... I say "fuck it" when it comes to grammar and editing tonight! It is, after all, late and I am, once again, drunk). So next, like I said, they took us ON STAGE where we waited for Mick Fleetwood (founding member and drummer of the legendary band FLEETWOOD MAC). Mick was greeted with thunderous applause and a few squeals from, well, me! First, Mick posed in front of his drum set with each of us for the standard/stock meet 'n greet photo! Before I touched him, I said, "Mick, may I put my arm around you for the photo" (or something really gay like that) and he said, "Of course! Hell ya!" In my real life, I never ask before touching someone. I just do it. They don't call me the little octopus for nothing, you know, but these celebrities can be sensitive and get your ass thrown out, so you gotta follow those rules on the waiver you signed which says something about touching.. (Anyhoo, he wanted me a little bit - I could sense it.) Next, after that, he answered questions from the 20 of us VIPs... I told him, "Mick, I was born in May of 1967. The same year as the original Fleetwood Mac. I think that's "special" and I tell my friends that all of the time!" He said, "The band was actually formed in August of 1967 but you keep telling people that!" He was SUPER nice. I love him. (This was actually the 4th time I have met Mick in person.) So after that was over, we went up to a private party room where Fleetwood Mac songs and videos could be heard/seen. It was off the hook/chain (whatever)! We ate CHICKEN PARMIGIANA! (My favorite). Then... (this is real exciting....) we took a Fleetwood Mac quiz (much like the quizzes I give when I throw a party - it's TRUE!) AND guess who won? You got it! ME! (And my friend Zane, who is also a super fan.) These other bitches didn't know much about Fleetwood Mac. Zane and I missed two questions but still enough to win John McVie's (he's the bass player) guitar picks! Bully awesome is what I say! At this point I was feeling a little caged and wanted to get down to my seat/place at the stage (I had enough of the other VIPs. I was done with them). I left the group and went down to where I would stand for the next 3 hours. (Zane later found me.) I met another crazy fan, "Wild Heart," whom I saw last Saturday and whom I have known for a couple years now. She was happy to see me and I was happy to see her! (I gave her the dog tags!) Oh shit, I forgot to tell you... Whilst up in that party room, they gave us Fleetwood Mac gift bags with Fleetwood Mac shit in them. It was AWESOME! Did I tell you Mick also signed a picture for me, "To Kevin. Mick Fleetwood." I think I forgot that part, but it happened and I am framing it. My head hurts. So the lights went down about 8:10 p.m. (East Coast Diamond Time) and the band opened to "Monday Morning, " a "hit" from their 1975 "white" album (and it reminds me of my friend, who has been more than a friend, if you know what I mean, Russ) because it says, well, you listen to it. It's nice. My place pressed up against the stage provided unfettered (what does unfettered mean? I don't know..) access to Stevie and Lindsey. My friend Zane stood behind me, keeping the riff raff away. Lindsey made a lot of eye contact with me. I smiled, shouted "I LOVE YOU" (to all of them) and lip-synced word for word to every song. At one point, Lindsey came over to me and I am CERTAIN he chose me purposely because he made eye contact with all of us in the front and when he saw me, he came right over. He played a guitar solo (I can't remember the song because, well, I'm drunk) but after the song, he held his hand out for me to take. I held his hand like a school girl for about 30 seconds. It was HOT then I realized it probably looked gay, so I let go. The show was AMAZING. Stevie smiled at me a couple of times but, if I am being honest here, really made a big to do about Zane, waving at him and shit. Tuesday's show was my (and I told this to Mick earlier) 53rd Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks concert! When Stevie sang, "Silver Springs" I thought of my ex-BF, Steve, when Stevie sang "Gypsy" I thought of my best friend in the world who means more to me than anyone, JoAnn. When Stevie sang, "Never Going Back Again, " I thought of my Grandmother because she sent me the YouTube video of that song once and when Stevie sang "Stand Back" I thought of the many people (men) in my life I have given my heart to who did not want it (Sad? A little BUT it is GREAT to dance to!). (Did I tell you I am drunk?)
The pictures here were taken by Zane on his iPhone. You can see what our view of the concert was like. The microphone I am standing by belongs to... STEVIE NICKS! (Notice her trademark ribbons.) If you click on the picture, it will enlarge for better viewing. (You can see her microphone very well and you can almost see the diamonds in my watch....)
If/when Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John (that's the band) come to your town, I hope you get a chance to see them. Nothing in the world is more exciting to me than being in the front row at a Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac concert. I don't understand it, can't explain it, but it "speaks" to me. (Yes, I am still drunk.)
Okay, if YOU are in Atlanta on Sunday... Come have a drink (perhaps a peach margarita) with ME at Blake's at 3:00 p.m.! I will be there celebrating, you got it, getting old(er) with friends!
Much love -
Kevin
