Rick Alltel

What's up you bad ass? It's Monday once again (dammit). (No one would ever guess an (almost) 40-year-old gay man writes this stuff, would they?)

We were very, very remiss last week in reminding you to watch Stevie Nicks perform "Stand Back" and "Landslide" on "Ellen."

Lucky for everyone, someone posted the performance on YouTube. If you missed it, this is for you (and, well, for me).

As you know, Stevie is touring this summer and "Kev" is a little (okay, a lot) upset that he won't be able to follow her around the country (you know, tour with her) as he did in 2001 and 2003. It's very sad, but I am only able to see Stevie 2 or 3 times this summer (and no front row seats yet), and it is really, really bothering me. When I started this blog, I wrote about my "obsession" with Stevie Nicks. I can't explain it, don't understand it, but my loyalty (yes, I need to use the word "obsession" again) has been unwavering for more than 30 years. She's my Elvis...

Did everyone catch "The Amazing Race All-Stars" last night? It remains my favorite reality show (even more so than "American Idol"). I can't sit while I watch the show - I have to stand/walk around, shout, etc... Anyhoo - gays "Danny" and "Oswald" were the last to check in at the pit stop in Guam and were sent home.

Tomorrow is May 1st, can you believe it? MANY, MANY "special" people were born in the month of May, so stay tuned as we celebrate them all throughout the month. (I can't wait! It's exciting!)

I am sometimes asked questions about the blog or things I have written on the blog.

It's time for a little "Corner" Q&A.

Here are some recent questions...

Q) How is your book coming?

A) Unfortunately, very SLOWLY. I haven't written beyond Chapter Three (although, I think the three chapters are "winning," Pulitzer Prize type material). It is a very slow process and I have lost some of the enthusiasm I once had for the "project." Being a published author remains a "dream" though and I will keep working at it in hopes of one day completing it.

Q) What's the title of your book?

A) Nice try. I won't divulge this to anyone, although I also think the title itself is "winning."

Q) How are you celebrating your 40th birthday?

A) Honestly, I am planning on drinking a LOT of peach margaritas (hopefully with friends) and then the next day I will be at the Ricky Martin concert. I know I should be grateful for every passing year, but this one seems to be the most difficult yet because I feel like I am getting old. (Have I shared too much?) People tell me all the time, "You don't LOOK 40," which is their way of saying, "Yes, you are getting old."

Q) I thought you were going to advertise on the site?

A) I still may if I can figure out how to get the ads that I want (you know - the ones with HOT guys in them). I don't want to advertise fedoras or apartments for rent.

Q) Who is Rick Alltel?

A) This was my FAVORITE question asked recently. It made me laugh. The person who asked it was referring to a picture of a license plate I had posted (which held a double meaning for me). The Arizona license plate (which I have re-posted below) reads "RCKALTL." "RCKALTL" is an abbreviation for "Rock A Little," which is the title of Stevie Nicks's third solo album (the cover can also be seen below AND I will tell you that of all the photos I have (and have seen) of Stevie, this remains one of my favorites). I suppose there is a man named Rick Alltel somewhere, but this was not an homage to him. Anyway, Stevie was born and has a home, as "Kev" did, in Phoenix, Arizona. Of all the states I have lived in, I liked the Arizona license plate the best.

Finally, if you called "Kev" back in 1985/1986, you would have heard the chorus from this "Rock A Little" hit (found in the YouTube video below) on his answering machine. (Do any of you remember this?)

Now here is a "Corner Contest" (our first EVER).

In 1987, "Kev" swapped the aforementioned song from his answering machine and replaced it with a Fleetwood Mac hit, also from 1987. For those of you who knew me then, does anyone remember this song? The first person to leave a comment on the blog with the correct song title will win the very first "Kev's Corner" tee-shirt! (I am doubting anyone will remember, so the shirts haven't even been ordered yet, but if by chance you do, I promise to send you a shirt, even if I have to create one here at home). GOOD LUCK!

We hope you all have a GR-EAT week! Once again, THANKS for "stopping in!"

Ciao!

"Kev"

Puppies!

It's SUNDAY! Time to get a move on (or get your groove on).

A friend said recently that the "Corner" looks like it's becoming a "sex site." Really? Is that what everyone thinks? For that reason, today we are featuring puppies! Like "HOT Guys," we all like puppies, right? So cute. Tomorrow we will feature TREES! (Just kidding.)

Here's a quick recap of stories you may have heard about this week...

Hugh Grant was arrested in London this week after throwing baked beans at (and kicking) a stalk-a-razzi who told him to "smile" for a picture. Apparently, Hugh went nuts.

Rosie quit "The View." I never liked her (or "The View") so I file this under "who cares." Being home sick, watching "The View," is incentive to get better quick. I had the misfortune of catching the show where Rosie was hanging upside down. Not pretty.

Britney was pulled over for speeding on Friday but was released with a warning. She is also planning to pen a "tell-all" of her life and is currently shopping for a publisher. Again, filed under "who cares."

A fan rushed the field at a soccer game (in Spain, I think) to give David Beckham his shirt. The fan was so excited, he also tried to give David his pants before security whisked him from the field. David bleached his hair blond(er) and the Beckhams have found their new L.A. home.

"Idol Gives Back" raised over 60 million dollars for causes in America and Africa. I intended to write JUST about Wednesday night's show (it was "moving," wasn't it) but have just been too busy. Anyway, I hope everyone got a chance to see the show (not for the performances, but for yet another glimpse of how others less fortunate live). It was like "Extreme Home Makeover" on crack. (Chris Richardson remains my "Idol" hopeful.)

Sanjaya insists he is NOT gay. Okay girlfriend, whatever.

That's it. I am outta here!

Here are some more pictures of puppies!

Friday's HOT Guy...

Welcome BACK bitches!

How's everyone doing? We hope you're SWELL!

You may have noticed that "Kev" hasn't been writing too much this week. He (again, that's me) has been SUPER busy. Just a lot going on both at home and the office.

For anyone who knows me, you know that like "papa," "Kev" is also a "rolling stone" and wherever he lays his hat, is his home. In addition to pursuing a new career opportunity, I am also house hunting. I like to change jobs and relocate once a year, so I am about due for both... So, now you understand the lack of substance here this week.

Other than that, we (and this time I am really referring to more than myself and/or my fictitious staff) are counting the days (7, to be exact) to RICKY MARTIN! As you may have read previously, Ricky will be performing here in Atlanta on May 4th and "Kev" and friend Elizabeth will be in the THIRD ROW! If you have never seen Ricky perform live, GO!

Okay, on to the topic you all stopped in for (except you straight guys, like Mr. C.)... Friday's "HOT Guy!"

Today's "HOT Guy" is the one and only Elvis Presley!

If you caught American Idol on Wednesday, then you may have seen this very cool duet of "If I Can Dream" with Elvis and one of my favorite canucks, Celine Dion.

Pretty neat, eh?

Here's another (sexier) version...

Most people my age never had the chance to see Elvis perform live.

Yes, I am going to brag a little bit more now. "Kev" DID in fact see Elvis in concert the very summer of his death. You see, "Kev's" mom was a HUGE Elvis fan so "Kev" was lucky enough to see Elvis perform live, if only once.

Anyhoo, I remember the music that played before the King came on stage... 2001 - A Space Odyssey. (They play this at my office before I arrive each day as well.) I also remember hearing those famous last words everyone has heard when the show ended - "Elvis has left the building." (I am certain they say this at the office when I leave each day too.)

"Kev" has also been to Graceland several times, including before and after Elvis's death. (Honestly, I have been there about two too many times, if you know what I mean.)

Since his death, Elvis was the "top-earning dead celebrity" according to Forbes Magazine UNTIL 2006, when Kurt Cobain earned the number one spot. Did you know Elvis weighed 350 pounds at the time of his death? That's true.

Everyone has a favorite Elvis song, right? What's yours? Mine is "Polk Salad Annie," which I have aptly renamed "Polk Salad Kevie." I have to admit, I never really understood all of the words Elvis was singing (and had to fill in a phrase or two) but it reminded me of potato salad. A nice summer treat, right? I know now that "Polk Salad Annie" (or "Kevie," whichever you prefer) is about a poor Southern girl (like "Kev") who did in fact eat a type of salad that poor Southern girls eat.

We hope you enjoy these pictures of Elvis and we hope you have a GR-EAT Saturday.

Much love.

And, oh -

"Kev" has left the building (or "Corner").

For those of you domestic types, please enjoy this recipe.

Polk Salad (Kevie)

3 lb Polk salad -- fresh
1 md Onion -- diced
1 tb Baking soda
1/2 c Bacon fat
3 Eggs

Note: Polk Salad is a spinach type vegetable that
grows wild in the woods. Dissolve the baking soda into
a pot of boiling water. Add Polk salad and cook for
3 minutes. Drain and discard the water. In a FRESH
pot of boiling water, cook the Polk salad until it is
limp and looks like cooked spinach. Heat the bacon fat in a skillet, add onions, the Polk salad, and the eggs, and sauté until eggs are done.

You Raise Me Up

It's ALMOST Friday! YAY!

How is everyone doing?

Did you catch "Idol Gives Back" last night? While I will write about it this weekend, I wanted to share this YouTube video of Josh Groban and the African Children's Choir singing "You Raise Me Up" (look for the kid missing the front teeth - simply the CUTEST).

"Kev" will be back tomorrow!

Hugs & Kisses!

Some Other 'Mo

Hey EVERYONE! Just a very QUICK post to say HELLO!

"Kev" is super busy this week and just hasn't had any time to write, but HOPES you are all enjoying your week thus far. The weather here in Atlanta remains, well, perfect.

Here are some pictures of a "HOT Guy" we hope you will enjoy, although it is very difficult to top Sunday's post - Rusty is the hottest, don't you think? I "swiped" all three of these pictures from some other 'mo's blog...

We hope you all have a GR-EAT Wednesday!

Hugs -

A Little Rusty

Bonjour et BIENVENUE le « coin du Kev ! »

For those of you who don't read French, this means, "Hello and WELCOME to "Kev's Corner."

Today marks our 215th post! We can't believe it either.

Yesterday we shared a picture of "HOT Guy," Atlanta-native, RUSTY JOINER, including an animated clip of Rusty ripping his scrubs off.

If you like Rusty as much as we like Rusty, than you are in for a real "treat" today. It's a Rusty "BLOW OUT SALE" or "ALL RUSTY, ALL DAY!" We scoured the internet (mostly other gay blogs and gay-related sites) to find as many Rusty Joiner pictures as we could.

He's beautiful, n'est pas? (More French for you.)

We are so excited about our yield, that we are going to share them all with you today... We hope you enjoy all of these pictures.

We (as always, just "me") hope you have a SUNNY Sunday!

HUGS -

"Kev"

GOOD FOR YOU!

G'DAY MATES!

It's my FAVORITE day of the week - SATURDAY! "Kev" is enjoying a nice cup of coffee, watching the MTV hit "Behind The Music" featuring David Cassidy (riveting) and writing to YOU!

I have to tell you, Shawn Cassidy looks exactly like his mom, Shirley Jones, now. See for yourself. Here is a picture of Shirley (on the top) and Shawn (on the bottom).

We here at the "Corner" like THIS Sean Cassidy better.

Here is some "entertainment" news for you...

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo are cohabiting in both New York City and Malibu. GOOD FOR YOU!

Katie Couric has a new, HOT, younger boyfriend. Katie is 50 and BF Brooks Perlin is 33. Again, we say, GOOD FOR YOU!

American BILLIONAIRE, Charles Simonyi, returned to earth after paying $25 MILLION to spend 13 days in space. Charles is also the BF of Martha Stewart. Charles amassed his fortune by developing MicroSoft Word and MicroSoft Excel. (Although that seems like a huge waste of money to me.) For $25 MILLION, you could see Stevie Nicks in concert, like 100's of millions of times. Anyway, Charles, GOOD FOR YOU!

Has everyone heard Alec Baldwin's crazy threatening voice message to his 11-year-old daughter, where he isn't even really sure if she is 11 or 12? Absolutely nuts, don't you think. To Alec we say, (not so) GOOD FOR YOU! (He's too hairy as well.)

That's all I have for today. We hope you enjoy these pictures of one of my favorite "HOT Guys," RUSTY JOINER! GOOD FOR YOU! (AND ME!)

However you spend your day today, we hope it is enjoyable. GOOD FOR YOU!

"Kev" will be back tomorrow. GOOD FOR YOU! (I can't stop...)
